Why Qonduit's Airbus preflight ended with more evidence required

A governed preflight asked for a measured bottleneck, strong comparator and falsifier before any quantum target could be frozen.

In research, a preflight is valuable only if it can stop the flight.

That is the clearest way to understand Qonduit's documented role in the Airbus Phase I challenge work. This was not an Airbus deployment, conformity assessment or endorsement. The preflight asked three practical questions: where was the measured bottleneck, what strong classical method already addressed it, and what full-pipeline cost or result would falsify the quantum idea?

Qonduit did not run the Airbus solver or produce the classical research results described by the programme, and no quantum execution occurred. Its contribution was a target-qualification preflight that kept those activities separate and concluded that more evidence was required before a target could be selected.

The preflight refused to select a decorative target

The public programme state did not justify selecting a quantum target. For any future candidate, evidence would first need to show a decision-relevant bottleneck, a fair classical comparison and an output that did not erase any benefit through reconstruction.

These were not statements that a future target could never work. They were statements that the recorded evidence did not justify selecting one.

A credible future comparison would also need measured end-to-end accounting for data preparation, representation, repeated evaluation, readout and reconstruction—not merely a nominal qubit count.

The public quantum-qualification view presents the documentary pathway and the no-target-frozen boundary. The machine-readable projection supplies the bounded milestone and no-execution state.

Why the stop is the story

“More evidence required” can sound anticlimactic. In fact, it is a core service of a governed preflight: require the research team to name the bottleneck, the full-pipeline costs, the classical comparator and the condition that would kill the idea.

For the Airbus Phase I work recorded here, the quantum-target decision remained open but unearned. That boundary keeps classical research from being mistaken for a quantum-gateway result.

The public evidence was recorded for this candidate as at 2026-09-28. The reader-facing quantum section and the machine-readable projection support the Airbus-specific state described here. The exploratory simulation download is not cited and cannot upgrade the accepted evidence. This article does not describe Qonduit architecture, implementation or internal target categories. It does not establish Airbus endorsement, conformity, production readiness or quantum advantage.
